FSIN Spirit of Our Nations Pow Wow
(Saskatoon, SK) The FSIN Spirit of Our Nations Pow Wow will be held this year October 26th, 27th & 28th at Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon. Once again, the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) and BHP Billiton have joined in this celebration of First Nations Culture as major corporate sponsors of this event. The pow wow brings together more than, 1,000 dancers, 300 singers, and 10,000 spectators over the three day event.
“The Spirit of Our Nations is a major event for the First Nations people of Saskatchewan,” stated Dorothy Myo, President of the Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre and Chairperson of the Pow Wow Committee. “None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our many sponsors such as SIGA and BHP Billiton.”
In addition to the regular dance competitions, highlights of the 2012 Spirit of Our Nations will include:
- Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre
- Princess Pageant and Crowning of the 2012 Miss FSIN Princess
- Attendance by Miss Indian World Jessa Rae Growing Thunder from the Fort Peck Reservation, Montana
- Honouring of the Newly Elected FSIN Executive (Chief, First Vice-Chief & Third Vice-Chief)
“The FSIN – Spirit of Our Nations celebrates the traditions of First Nations people that have been carried out for countless generations,” said Dorothy Myo. “As we celebrate 40 years of history at the SICC we honour all of those who have contributed to the Centre and to keeping these traditions alive and vibrant within our communities.”
