VICTORIA – B.C. government organizations implemented 66 per cent of recommendations by the Auditor General to improve the performance of ministries, Crown corporations, and other public sector entities, according to an annual follow-up report from the Office of the Auditor General.

The report, delivered to the Legislative Assembly today, looks at the status of 151 recommendations from 29 audits of government organizations published between 2019 and 2023.

The audit topics included access to emergency health services, management of forest service roads, delivery of mental health and substance use services, and oversight of major mines.

“We follow-up after our performance audits so that the Legislative Assembly and its Public Accounts Committee can monitor progress on recommendations that government organizations committed to put in place,” said Sheila Dodds, Acting Auditor General.

Since last year’s follow-up report, organizations implemented an additional 13 recommendations from 2019-2022 audits. Organizations have also fully implemented all recommendations in nine of the 29 audits published between 2019 and 2023.

“If a recommendation hasn’t been implemented, it doesn’t mean work isn’t proceeding. We know that some of them are complex and take longer to address,” Dodds said.

Organizations were asked to prepare progress reports that confirmed whether they had completed each audit recommendation as of March 31, 2025. They summarized the status of each recommendation and gave an anticipated completion date for the 42 recommendations they still intend to complete.

There are nine recommendations, from six audits, that organizations have reported they will no longer complete.

Each organizations’ progress report, with information on their actions, can be found in the follow-up report.
