June 27, 2017 – Have you experienced or witnessed racism in Thunder Bay?

The City of Thunder Bay’s Anti-Racism & Respect Advisory Committee’s Incident Reporting Working Group, in partnership with Diversity Thunder Bay and Lakehead Social Planning 211, launched a tool today that will allow those who experience or witness racism to report it.

“The Committee is launching this one-year pilot project to give those witnessing or experiencing racism an outlet to report the incident in a way that is appropriate for each individual,” said Amina-Abu Bakare, Chair – Anti-Racism & Respect Advisory Committee. “We are listening. Help starts here.”

Residents can now report incidents of racism to trained specialists online, in person or by phone. The trained specialists will listen, provide support, track the data to watch for trends and inform future actions, and connect people with any available resources.

“I am proud of the work of the Incident Reporting Working Group for working towards a more respectful and inclusive community,” said Councillor Paul Pugh, Acting Mayor. “I encourage all residents to use the hashtag #NotInMyTbay on their social media platforms, to show support to those reporting and let it be known that racism is not acceptable in our Thunder Bay.”
