No province or territory is systematically victimized. If you want to talk systematic victimization and systemic underfunding, then look no further than at First Nations and Inuit communities. For Alberta to attempt to claim to be the victim in Canada’s Confederation is beyond truth and far into the falsehood swamp.
OTTAWA—If anybody should have left Canada, it was First Nations.
Secession: it’s a serious word for uniquely Canadian dumb ideas. Some Albertans are saying things about their unequal treatment, and, for the record, it’s not true. Alberta has not been treated badly, and neither has Quebec.
Having lived in Western Canada, I understand the wide differences between western Canadians and central Canadians. One can’t underestimate the unease that exists. But guess what brings us all together: an external threat. That’s the thing about extended family, we can see the fault lines and friction until we’re all under threat. Then extended family kicks in and this value is stronger than friction. Thanks to the tangerine down south, we now share an external threat.
