IRC launches Mamaqtuq take-out menu ahead of the official restaurant opening.
With great pride and excitement, the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) announces the opening of Mamaqtuq, a new restaurant dedicated to serving delicious and authentic foods. Located in Inuvik, Mamaqtuq is a place where diners can enjoy a unique culinary experience that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Inuvialuit.
Mamaqtuq is the latest project of the IRC and demonstrates its commitment to creating sustainable economic development opportunities in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR). The restaurant will serve a variety of dishes, including traditional Inuvialuit country foods such as muskox, fish, and berries, as well as modern cuisine inspired by these ingredients.
“We are pleased to be opening Mamaqtuq and to share the flavors and traditions of Inuvialuit cuisine with the wider community,” said Duane Ningaqsiq Smith, Chair and CEO of the IRC. “The restaurant is not only a celebration of our cultural heritage but also a way to support local food producers and promote sustainable tourism in the region.”
Mamaqtuq will open later in the Spring and will feature a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with decor inspired by the natural beauty of the region. The restaurant will also offer catering services for events and gatherings.
In preparation for the restaurant’s grand opening, Mamaqtuq will be offering a limited-time serving of some family-friendly dishes for the community this weekend. While the renovations are being completed and our Inuvialuit Head Chef readies the menu, this weekend’s takeout offerings will provide a much-needed infusion of tasty comfort food to the community. Take-out will be available through pick-up at the Mackenzie Hotel (Mackenzie Road entrance) and will be debit/credit only for this weekend. The take-out menu will remain available until the restaurant’s grand opening in the Spring. This weekend’s limited time menu will be available for ordering starting at 5 PM, Friday March 10th.
Mamaqtuq is expected to create jobs and generate economic activity in the region, contributing to long-term prosperity and food security in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. The restaurant is testament to Inuvialuit commitment to cultural preservation and economic development.
