KIA – Update: Post-Secondary Education Sponsorship
The Inuit Programs & Services Department, operated within the Kivallig Inuit Association, provides valuable assistance to Inuit individuals across Canada who wish to pursue Post Secondary Education. Funding for these programs is made possible through contributions from Service Canada and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated.
Through the Inuit Programs & Services Department, individuals are eligible for various forms of support to help them pursue their educational goals. These forms of assistance include:
- Living Allowance: A financial allowance provided to cover living expenses while attending post-secondary education.
- Training Allowance: Financial support to cover the costs associated with training programs or courses.
- Childcare Assistance: Assistance in covering the cost of childcare services for individuals with dependents.
- Travel: Financial support for travel expenses incurred during the pursuit of post-secondary education.
- Tuition Costs: Funding to cover the cost of tuition fees for approved programs of study. Rent: Assistance in covering rental costs for individuals attending post-secondary education away from home.
- Supplies: Financial support for necessary educational supplies and materials.
As of September 25, 2023, the Inuit Programs & Services Department has committed a total of $4,369,914.68 in the categories mentioned above. The breakdown of funding commitments is as follows:
Training Allowance: $643,838.50
Living Allowance: $2,229,161.99
Travel: $41,700.57
Childcare: $470,240.00
Tuition: $444,368.74
Rent: $478,397.62
Supplies: $62,207.26
There is no specific deadline for submitting applications. However, completed applications are approved on a first-come, first-served basis. It is advisable to submit your application as early as possible to increase the likelihood of receiving funding, as the Inuit Programs & Services Department receives a high volume of applications each year.
The Kivallig Inuit Association has seen an influx over the past 4 years for the need for post- secondary student funding. The total number of students are as follow:

New funding for these programs becomes available on April 1, 2024. Therefore, it is essential to submit your completed application well in advance to be considered for funding in the upcoming cycle.
