A rough cut of ‘Little Bird’, an independent Indigenous short film shot recently in Saugeen Shores, will be submitted to TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) before a June 28 deadline in hopes of a screening during this fall’s annual event.
Little Bird is a belated “love letter” from a son to his late mother – a semi-autobiographical offering from writer Tim Myles, 26, who also directed and acted in the film that was shot at various Saugeen Shores locations including Gobles Grove, Saugeen First Nation and Southampton June 18-20.
Myles, a Miꞌgmaw from Newfoundland who relocated to Toronto to act, said his grandmother who called him Little Bird, died as he was writing the script, so the work is an homage to both her and his late mother.
The admitted momma’s boy said it was cathartic to write and then act in the scene when the son wants to grab an urn with his mother’s ashes and flee, to be alone with her one last time.
