Marcel Colomb First Nation Hosts Ceremony for the Signing of Impact Benefit Agreement with Alamos Gold Inc.
June 14, 2023, Lynn Lake, Manitoba – Marcel Colomb First Nation (“MCFN”) held a ceremony this week on the occasion of signing an Impact Benefit Agreement with Alamos Gold Inc. (“Alamos Gold”) for the Lynn Lake Gold Project. The ceremony was held at the MCFN in northern Manitoba, and it was an opportunity to highlight the significant opportunities for collaboration on economic development, jobs and training, and supporting the highest level of environmental sustainability.
Attending the ceremony were members of the Marcel Colomb First Nation Chief and Council, executive members of Alamos Gold including CEO John McCluskey, as well as other dignitaries including the Manitoba’s Minister of Natural Resources Greg Nesbitt, Manitoba’s Member of Legislative Assembly for Flin Flon Tom Lindsey, Town of Lynn Lake Council Member Vicki Phillips, Swampy Cree Tribal Council, as well as the members of the MCFN.
“Alamos Gold’s Lynn Lake Gold Project is located within the Traditional Territory of Marcel Colomb First Nation, and we are very proud to be partnering with Alamos Gold by signing this historic Agreement today that will provide socioeconomic benefits for the long term future of our Nation” said Christopher Colomb, Chief of Marcel Colomb First Nation.
Alamos Gold, a Canadian-based intermediate gold producer, acquired the Lynn Lake Gold Project in 2016 and recently received key permitting approvals from the Government of Canada and Government of Manitoba. The Company operates three mines in North America including the Young-Davidson and Island Gold mines in northern Ontario and the Mulatos mine in Mexico.
The Agreement outlines opportunities to help the community expand its capacity for economic development and employment, and supports collaboration and partnership for environmental stewardship.
“This Agreement is the result of positive collaboration and engagement that has taken place between Alamos Gold and Marcel Colomb First Nation since we acquired the project in 2016, and we are looking forward to a continued partnership for years to come,” said Alamos Gold CEO and President John McCluskey, who participated in the Signing Ceremony. “The Lynn Lake Gold Project remains an important part of Alamos Gold’s growth story with the capacity to increase our overall production to approximately 800,000 ounces per year, and will be a driver of positive economic investment in Northern Manitoba. We are proud to be partners with Marcel Colomb First Nation.”
