Membertou Public Works team joins the union – UFCW 864

Membertou, N.S. – November 24, 2025 – UFCW Eastern Provinces Council Local 864 welcomes 19 new members from the Membertou Band Council Public Works Department.

The newest union members included heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and traffic control workers, who joined the union seeking increased wages, job security and health benefits.

Membertou is an urban Mi’kmaq community located on Unama’ki – Cape Breton Island, and the Public Workers Department is responsible for water and sewer infrastructure, community roads, and more.
