MNS 2023-2024 Annual Report
The 2023-24 fiscal year was one of the most progressive in the history of Métis Nation–Saskatchewan. With increased capacity, our leaders and staff focused on engaging in community, negotiating the advancement of our rights, and improved service to thousands of Métis Citizens across the province. Through MN–S’ program delivery, the government heard the same message; people have never seen so much movement in the Métis Nation. Métis people are coming home to the Nation – to register as MN–S Citizens, to work for our government, to be served and represented. Our Citizens are excited to be a part of what we are building.
Much of this unprecedented growth is the result of our government successfully negotiating agreements and creating meaningful partnerships that directly benefit our Citizens. The 2023-24 MN–S Annual Report – too lii zaan wiihta (telling about all the years) is an opportunity to know us, to know the good work of our government, and to share in life-changing success stories from our Citizens and communities. The outcomes in this report represent a massive social and economic benefit not only to our Saskatchewan Métis Nation, but to the province and Canada.
For more than 250 years, the Métis have been here shaping and contributing to the economy across the Métis homeland. Every MN–S partnership results in a progressive step toward fulfilling Louis Riel’s dream of self-government. Métis identity, culture, values, and language are the foundations of the MN–S government, built by citizens, for citizens.
When this government first took office eight years ago, we were essentially starting from scratch. We immediately began working to rebuild relationships and reestablish trust within our communities, with the province, and with Canada.
Since that time, we have become the recognized government for Métis people in Saskatchewan. Our citizenship has grown to more than 34,000 and we’re making record investments in programs and services that matter to our families. From housing to safe havens, treatment facilities to environmental monitors, education for our little ones and post-secondary opportunities for our youth. This Métis Nation government is built by Saskatchewan, for Saskatchewan. That was our promise eight years ago and remains our mandate today.
In the spirit of transparency, we are proud to share a report with you this year that not only reflects the real investment made by this MN–S government but the impact it’s had on our citizens in the north, central, and south.
