Newfoundland fire inspector issues warning about gasoline storage – CP

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. _ Fire officials in eastern Newfoundland are raising concerns about people storing too much gasoline.

Some gas stations in the St. John’s area ran out of gas earlier this week as people lined up to beat a new gas tax that came into effect Thursday morning.

With so many people filling up their cars, trucks and gas containers, the St. John’s Regional Fire Department issued a warning about safe storage.

Insp. Terry Prim says there are rules about storing the highly flammable liquid

He says no more than 10 litres can be stored inside a home.

As well, no more than 30 litres can be stored outside.

Prim says gasoline can only be stored in containers approved by the Canadian Standards Association.
