NorTerra Acquires Northern Industrial Sales to Become Largest Provider of Industrial Supplies North of 60
News Release
NorTerra Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire Independent Industrial Supply of north central British Columbia, Northern Industrial Sales of western British Columbia and the Northern Metalic Sales branches located in the Northwest Territories and the Yukon. Derek Wilson, former owner of Independent Industrial Supply becomes President of the merged companies that will continue to operate and be known as Northern Industrial Sales.
This merger and acquisition, sees the NorTerra Group of Companies diversifying into the industrial supply sector, a move that is entirely compatible with its business objectives. “Northern Industrial Sales is a great fit for us and we look forward to working with our new partners, customers and suppliers to ensure that we meet the emerging needs of the North,” explained NorTerra President, Carmen Loberg. “This acquisition represents positive news for our owners, the Inuvialuit Development Corporation (IDC) and the Nunasi Corporation (Nunasi), and in turn good news for the people of Canada’s Arctic,” he commented.Northern Industrial Sales will have BC branches in: Prince George, Terrace, Chetwynd, Prince Rupert and Quesnel and Northern branches in: Whitehorse, Hay River, Yellowknife, Norman Wells, Inuvik, Watson Lake, and Dawson City.
“This larger company will mean that our customers will see the advantages of volume purchasing, and other efficiencies of scale without losing the personal service and local insights that have made the companies successful to date. We remain committed to offering service that is professional, prompt, and infused with local knowledge. Understanding the needs of the North and the needs of our customer, suppliers and partners will be our way of remaining competitive and profitable,” explained Derek Wilson.
After decades of business success with Northern Metalic Sales in the Yukon and Northwest Territories, owner Don Cox agrees that understanding the unique needs of Northern industries, and the particular challenges of working in remote areas in a harsh climate will remain key to Northern Industrial Sales’ success going forward. “We kept our Northern values at the centre of our business decisions and work ethic. Selling to a Canadian organization that understands the needs of these communities was important to me. NorTerra was a great fit because of its track record and reputation in this part of the world. I wish the new entity every success,” commented Cox.
