Opening soon: Telefilm Canada’s Theatrical Documentary Program for 2025-2026

Telefilm Canada is announcing the application dates for the Theatrical Documentary Program for fiscal 2025-2026, along with updated Guidelines and related documents, which are now available here.

The Theatrical Documentary Program provides financial assistance to Canadian production companies for the production and post-production stages of feature-length documentaries.

Key dates:

• Opening date: March 19, 2025

• Closing date: April 2, 2025

Please note, there is only one intake period for this program.

Important changes:

Changes to the program are made to align with recent changes made to the 2025-2026 Production Program which are mainly:

• Simplified application process: A reduction in the number of required documents and new templates.

• Refined evaluation criteria: The updated criteria clarify the pre-selection process and specify that applicants’ history in meeting their contractual obligations towards Telefilm is taken into account when assessing their track record.

• Simplified recoupment structures: We are simplifying our recoupment language to only look at the amount of Telefilm financing when determining the form of Telefilm’s participation and recoupment.

• Expanded carbon footprint reporting requirement and increased flexibility for Indigenous projects.
