Unemployment and underemployment can be significant barriers for Indigenous youth seeking to build a stable future.

ISWO’s Bridge to Employment program is changing that narrative by providing Indigenous youth, ages 18-34, with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed in today’s workforce. This innovative initiative is more than just a job readiness program—it’s a pathway to meaningful employment and long-term empowerment.

What is the Bridge to Employment Program?

The Bridge to Employment program is a paid, 8-week, 240-hour workforce development initiative designed to help Indigenous youth across Ontario develop essential job readiness skills. By participating in this program, youth gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and increase their chances of securing and maintaining employment.

The program offers three specialized streams, allowing participants to tailor their experience to their interests and career goals:

  • Digital Technology: For those interested in tech, this stream provides training in areas like coding, digital marketing, and IT support, preparing participants for roles in a rapidly growing industry.
  • Community Health & Wellness: This stream focuses on careers in healthcare and wellness, equipping participants with skills to support their communities through roles in health services, counselling, or fitness.
  • Green Building and Sustainable Technology: With a focus on sustainability, this stream trains participants in eco-friendly building practices and green technologies, preparing them for careers in the growing green economy.

Impacting Lives, One Opportunity at a Time

Since its inception, the Bridge to Employment program has helped Indigenous youth find meaningful employment opportunities across various industries. Addressing barriers to employment and providing tailored support has empowered participants to take control of their futures.

The program’s impact goes beyond individual success stories. It strengthens communities by fostering a skilled workforce and promoting economic development. Participants not only gain technical skills but also develop soft skills such as leadership, teamwork, and communication abilities that serve them in all aspects of life.

Building a Brighter Future

ISWO’s Bridge to Employment program is a commitment to creating opportunities for Indigenous youth to thrive. By investing in their potential, ISWO is helping to build a brighter future for Indigenous folks and communities across Ontario.

For Indigenous youth seeking a chance to grow, learn, and succeed, the Bridge to Employment program is a stepping stone toward a fulfilling career and a stronger community.
