Solar panels to be installed on community hall’s roof
The hamlet of Pond Inlet will add a second solar-powered clean energy project to the community in 2023.
With $1 million in federal funding from the Community Infrastructure Partnership Program through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, a 150-kilowatt solar energy system will be purchased and installed on the roof of the community hall, said David Stockley, the hamlet’s chief administrative officer.
Power generated by the 10-kilowatt solar energy system installed last year on the hamlet parking garage has reduced the community’s diesel consumption by 2,200 litres and cut carbon dioxide output by 5,500 kilograms this year, said Stockley.
“The system going in at the community hall is about 15 times larger,” he said. “Being 15 times larger, it will bring even more benefit to the community.”
