Public engagement begins for new school in downtown Whitehorse
May 14, 2025
The Government of Yukon wants Whitehorse residents to have a say in shaping the future of education in their community and is inviting residents to provide input on the potential need and possible locations for a new downtown public school.
To help ensure the new school reflects community priorities, Yukoners are encouraged to complete a short online survey about potential locations before June 15, 2025. The survey, which takes about 10 minutes to complete, will gather feedback from the community on topics such as location preferences, educational resources and facility needs.
The Government of Yukon will also host two drop-in public engagement sessions where residents can learn more, ask questions and share their perspectives in person.
- May 29, 2025, from 6 to 8 pm at the Old Fire Hall, located at 1105 Front Street.
- May 31, 2025, from 1 to 3 pm at the Francophone Centre, located at 302 Strickland Street.
To help ensure that a broad range of views inform the planning process, engagement will also include education partners, Yukon First Nations and community organizations to explore opportunities and gather further insights.

Our government believes that downtown residents need to be involved in shaping the future of downtown. With a growing population, planning for modern, well-equipped educational facilities remains a priority and I encourage all Yukoners to share their perspectives and ideas, whether through the survey or by attending an engagement session. Your input will help us create a modern, inclusive school that truly reflects the needs and values of Whitehorse residents.
