QIA Awards Scholarships to Qikiqtani Inuit
Iqaluit, Nunavut, September 24, 2025 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year. Since 2016, QIA has awarded over $1.6 million in scholarships to support Inuit students in the Qikiqtani Region.
Each year, QIA offers $205, 000 in scholarships to Qikiqtani Inuit pursuing post-secondary education. Of this amount, $200,000 is distributed through 80 scholarships at $2, 500 each, awarded on a first come-first serve basis.
In addition, QIA awards the John Amagoalik scholarship, $5,000 is presented to one deserving student entering the field of journalism or programs that promote Inuit language and culture. This scholarship honours the lifelong contributions of John Amagoalik to the advancement of Inuit in Nunavut, and more specifically, Inuit in the Qikiqtani Region.
This year, the John Amagoalik scholarship was awarded to Christie Akearok of Iqaluit, who is in her second year of the Interpreter/Translator program with the Nunavut Arctic College.
QIA is proud to support the educational journey of the 2025-2026 scholarship recipients and wishes them the best of luck as they pursue their post-secondary studies.
