QIA Call for 2022-2023 Scholarship Applications

Iqaluit, Nunavut – Today, the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) has reopened the QIA Scholarship and the John Amagoalik Scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year.

This year, there are 80 QIA Scholarships available at $2,500 each and 2 John Amagoalik Scholarships available at $5,000 each.  The scholarships will close once all spots are filled.

Applications are now immediately available; you can find the easy-to-fill online form here: https://www.qia.ca/scholarship-application/

To be eligible for either scholarship, you must:

  • Have a valid Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. enrolment card, recognized as an Inuk from the Qikiqtani Region
  • Be a permanent resident in one of the 13 Qikiqtani communities – exceptions are made for students living in other locations while enrolled as a full-time post-secondary student. You may be asked to provide a copy of your Nunavut Health Card for further proof of residency.
  • Provide a copy of your proof of enrolment in a recognized post-secondary academic institution
  • Provide a copy of your Social Insurance Number

Additional criteria for the John Amagoalik Scholarship:

  • Students must be enrolled in a post-secondary academic institution, preferably in a field that promotes Inuit language and culture
  • A 500-word essay on how you feel your aspirations are influenced by John Amagoalik and the Nunavut Agreement
  • A recent resume
  • Copies of most recent transcripts
  • Two reference letters from a nonfamily member
  • Students must maintain a full course load and a passing grade point average to receive the scholarships
