Zone II Regional Council of the Métis Nation of Alberta Association

April 19, 2009.

It is with great sadness that we have to relay some very sad news. Our dear lifelong friend, Vice-President of the Zone II Regional Council and supporter of the Métis people, the Métis Community and The Métis Nation, Homer J. Poitras passed away last Sunday evening.A Métis Man through and through, a Canadian Champion Fiddler, a Family Man and Friend, will be remembered for his passion for his Music and his people and he will be greatly missed.

At a time when the pace of life takes us all in different directions, Homer was always available to sit and chat about the way things were, the way they are and the way he dreamed they could be.

He always participated in our lives and our events, promoting our culture and music while nurturing old friendships and creating new ones for the benefit of our people and our community.

We are left with fond memories of a man who stood up for what he believed in, fought for our rights and gently guided our direction. A silent pillar of strength.

Family and friends can follow Homer from Yewchins Funeral Home in St. Paul, Alberta, leaving at 3:00 p.m. and proceeding to the Art and Leisure Centre (east of the Hill Top) in Elk Point, Alberta for 2 nights wake on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Final viewing will be at 9:00 a.m. on April 22, 2010 in Elk Point with services at 11:00 a.m. at the Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church in Kehewin, Alberta.

Karen (KC) Collins, on behalf of The Métis people in Zone II
