Researchers criticized after response overwhelms YK project – Cabin Radio

A university research team’s trip to take samples at a Yellowknife mall created a situation that one Indigenous resident says was “degrading, wrong, offensive and discriminatory.”
Gerri Sharpe said a team from the Indigenous Global Health Research Group was collecting blood samples from Indigenous people at Yellowknife’s Centre Square Mall last November.
She said people who volunteered to provide those samples were treated “like a herd of caribou.”
The researchers said dozens more people turned up than were anticipated, creating an unexpectedly overcrowded environment.
