Seaspan dedicated $2.5 million for Indigenous Shipbuilding Training
February 14, 2025
Seaspan has announced a $2.5 million investment over five years to support Indigenous skills training and apprenticeships in the marine industry through its continued partnership with Aboriginal Community Career Employment Services (ACCESS). The program offers trades training at BCIT in areas such as welding and metal fabrication, alongside high school outreach programs across five school districts to introduce students to marine trades. Additionally, $22,500 annually will go to the Urban Spirit Foundation for student emergency relief, and $2,500 per year will be awarded to top-performing students. This initiative builds on Seaspan’s $6.8 million investment since 2016 under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy to promote Indigenous participation in shipbuilding careers.
