Both incidents involved people reporting injuries in police custody

Ontario’s police watchdog has invoked its mandate in Pikangikum First Nation following an incident Wednesday morning in the remote Ojibwe community.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service just after 9 a.m. that day.

Officers arrested an individual, who reported an injury once they were in custody. They were sent to the nursing station for treatment, the SIU said in a news release issued Thursday morning.
