Stay safe on the land – sign out a SPOT device
April 2, 2025
The Department of Community Services Emergency Management Division reminds Nunavummiut that Generation 3 SPOT devices are available in all communities.
If you’re heading out on the land, whether for a short trip or an extended period, sign out a free SPOT device from your local hamlet office, wildlife office or Hunters and Trappers Organization. These devices allow you to send signals and share your location in emergencies, even without cell service. SPOT devices can save lives, but they only work if they’re available – remember to return the unit after your trip so others can use it when needed.
Be prepared before you go:
- Tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll return.
- Check the weather before heading out.
- Pack essentials: prescription medication, extra clothing, food, fuel, matches and a repair kit for snow machines.
Give your loved ones, friends and local search and rescue teams peace of mind by taking a SPOT device and planning ahead for a safe trip.
