Hundreds of people are expected to turn out to a southwest Calgary church Friday to remember the Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people that have been lost to violence.

The 17th annual Valentine’s Day Memorial March for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S+) kicks off at the Scarboro United Church at 6 p.m.

The march is a nationwide movement to remember those who have been murdered or disappeared, and continue to be extorted. It is also meant to draw attention to the disproportionate numbers of MMIWG2S+ that have been lost.

Organizers welcome anyone interested in participating. Doors open at 6 p.m., performances and speeches start at 6:30 p.m., and the march itself will depart from the church at 7:30 p.m.
