Despite record economic performance, Saskatchewan gets failing grades in significant categories in the most recent poverty report card.
In case you missed it, Saskatchewan’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached a record high last year, hitting $77.9 billion.
Also last year, the Land of the Living Skies hit a new high for exports of $49.3 billion.
All the good economic news sounds great, especially for the governing Saskatchewan Party already in campaign mode for October.
But the recently released Poverty Report Card from Food Banks Canada tells a starkly different story. Like most of Canada, and the nation overall, Saskatchewan received a grade of D-. And that grade feels generous, given that Saskatchewan gets two Fs, a D- and a D in the report card’s four main categories.
