Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We are writing to provide an important update regarding the Jordan’s Principle Support Program at SOAHAC.

You may have recently seen news that the federal government has committed to funding Jordan’s Principle through 2026. While this is a welcome announcement, we want to share with you how this affects our specific situation. Although the national commitment has been made, local delivery partners like SOAHAC must still apply for and receive formal confirmation of funding for the upcoming fiscal year. As of today, SOAHAC has not yet received that confirmation.

For several months, we have been in active discussions with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) about renewing our agreement for April 1, 2025—March 31, 2026. Unfortunately, despite our efforts and good faith engagement, we are still awaiting a decision. Without a confirmed funding agreement in place, we are heartbroken to share that SOAHAC will need to begin winding down Jordan’s Principle programming as of March 31, 2025.

This is not a decision we are making by choice — it is the reality of a changed funding process. Earlier this year, ISC introduced new national guidelines outlining significant changes to how Jordan’s Principle is delivered, including stricter eligibility requirements, new documentation rules and limits on what types of support will be approved. These shifts are being felt across the country and have created delays and uncertainty for many organizations.

We are deeply aware of the impact this has on families who have relied on the program, not only for direct services, but for food, clothing, navigation, and advocacy support. We are also proud of our team, who have walked alongside hundreds of families with dedication, care, and cultural humility. At this time, it is our understanding that all open files will be returned to ISC for review and administration beginning April 1.

We know this is difficult news and we are doing everything we can to support a smooth and respectful transition. Our leadership continues to engage with ISC and advocate for Indigenous-led delivery of this vital program. If our funding is confirmed in the days ahead, we will immediately re-engage our capacity to serve.

We will continue to keep you informed. In the meantime, thank you for your trust, your understanding and your continued care for your children and communities.

With respect and gratitude,

Jan Martin
