Every year on May 5, people in communities across Canada hang red dresses from their windows and in their yards.

The day has come to be known as Red Dress Day and this year is its 15th anniversary.

It’s meant to honour and raise awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit (MMIWG2S+) people.

The REDress Project was started by Métis artist and activist Jaime Black-Morsette in 2010.
