Red Dress Day is for murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls recognized at North Bay Waterfront
A string of red dresses swayed in the wind at the Kiwanis Bandshell Sunday morning.
Her aunt was murdered. She was 45. Her aunt’s sister was also murdered.
“Red Dress Day is for murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls. We’re just trying to honour them. Make sure their presence is known,” said Koritsaris, event planner for the North Bay Indigenous Centre.
“The message has totally been lost – that’s why we’re trying to make it more present.”
Red Dress Day, otherwise known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People, is a day to raise awareness and take action against the ongoing genocide that Canadian lawmakers continue to allow and ignore.
