Making art as a coping skill turns a lifelong interest into a profession
Few have a love for art and can create it like Sault Sainte Marie’s Marissa Indoe.
Indoe a 25-year-old Anishinaabe artist from Chapleau Ojibwe First Nation creates beadwork with hand-painted centers, paintings, and digital artwork.
Indoe’s interest in art began as a child.
“I have been drawing since I could pick up a pencil and spent a lot of my free time drawing as a child. I began painting with watercolours and acrylics when I was 15. I started getting more serious with my art and really worked on developing my painting skills specifically when I was 19,” said Indoe.
