Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN) is developing an Algonquin Foods program. The primary goal of the program is to identify and communicate to AOPFN citizens, the status of traditional Algonquin foods and medicines potentially harvested near nuclear facilities operating within Traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinabe. More specifically the area surrounding the CNL/AECL site at Chalk River, and the NPD site near Rolphton, ON.
The Algonquin Foods program must seek to understand the concerns of AOPFN citizens when it comes to harvesting near nuclear facilities, the western science behind testing, the traditional Algonquin knowledge of the land and ultimately, are there any risks to our citizens who depend on traditional harvesting to feed their families.
AOPFN is issuing an RFP to qualified consultants to assist in the development and implementation of an Algonquin Foods program in relation to the traditional Algonquin foods near nuclear facilities, in the period between December, 2023 and March, 2024. The successful consultant will demonstrate their experience and expertise developing and conducting like studies or projects, and a proven successful track record working with First Nations.
