Respecting the global community potential to contribute and participate in the knowledge-base development of the Matawa territory and homelands including the Ring of Fire region – the Matawa Chiefs Council are issuing an open call for research papers from many disciplines and areas of expertise for their consideration.

  • This type of research and information sharing is not government funded, and any research papers submitted would be without cost on a pro bono “for the public good” basis.
  • Authors and contributors would be publicly acknowledged and printed in an official compendium for this 2025 annual round of proposals.
  • Selected research papers, article or video recorded seminars will be invited to present their work to the Matawa Chiefs Council and communities.

Draft Paper Proposals accepted until October 31, 2025.

Final Paper Submission Deadline is December 31, 2025.

Potential topic lists are outlined below; however, the Matawa Chiefs Council will accept research proposals that are beyond the topics below for case-by-case consideration. Research papers are the main focus, however qualified articles and recorded video seminar type submissions will also be accepted.

  • Inherent/Aboriginal and Treaty Rights including Treaty Implementation & the Taking Up of Land
  • Government Economy and Revenue
  • Social and Community Development
  • Health and Wellbeing in remote and rural First Nation communities
  • Mining (Chromite, Precious Metals, Critical Minerals)
  • Forestry
  • Hydro and Hydrogen Opportunities
  • Land (Industrial, Commercial, Residential)
  • Major Regional Infrastructure (transmission corridor*, highways, pipelines, roads, rail)
  • Security & Defence
