Project Overview
Produce a Language Revitalization Plan for Garden River Childcare Centre which will outline strategies to use with the daycare beginning with a vision statement setting goals and objectives and lead to the implementation of a guide which will be sectioned for four (4) seasons.
Project Goals
Provide services in the role of Indigenous Culture and Language Consultant to include the prepare and execution of a
Language Plan consisting of the following:
Develop Vision, Values, Goals Strategies, Action and Indicators over a six (6) month period
The implementation of a viable and productive Language Plan that current Child Care Centre staff will utilize
Provide resources such as books, website, videos for execution of Sessions
Development of Language Plan for Preschool (31 months to 5 Years) children including parents, caregivers and grandparents of children
Supply comprehensible input, language acquisition and facilitate the continuation of the creation of highly proficient second language Anishinaabemowin understanding
Support the efforts of First Nation communities and organizations to reclaim, revitalize, maintain and strengthen First Nation languages as well as create new First Language speakers
Increase immersion opportunities and increase the use of First Nations Language
Enhance the language program and provide guidance to the Language Instructor and their Apprentice
Delivery Timelines
Develop and execute work plan for 4 separate Seasons – One per month
Review Language Plan and Report- Final Month over a 6-month period
Budget = $53,000
Minimum Requirements:
Degree in Early Childhood Education
Minimum Five – Ten years work experience in an Early Childhood Centre and/or related experience required
Knowledge, understanding and experience of First Nation language, culture, values, and traditions
Strong organizational skills, critical thinking, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Effective communication (written, oral, and visual)
An understanding of policy and strategic planning processes in an Early Childhood setting.
Proven research and reporting skills.
Sound judgement in setting priorities and managing priorities and deadlines
An ability to develop lesson plans and activities based around the Early Learning Framework in Ontario
High ethical standards and flawless compliance with relevant legislation
Ability to work closely with team members and leadership to foster collaboration, build strong relationships, and ensure the successful execution of language and culture research.
Ability to interact with teachers, children, and other professionals to build the best individualize program for the Centre.
