The Royal Winnipeg Ballet enriches the human experience by teaching, creating, and performing outstanding dance. Located in the heart of downtown Winnipeg, the RWB plays an integral role in the city’s vibrant arts community. Founded in 1939, the RWB holds the double distinction of being Canada’s premiere ballet company and the longest continuously operating ballet company in North America. In 1953, the Company received its royal title, the first granted under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

THE ROLE
As a Boarding Advisor, you are responsible for fostering a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for student boarders aged 11-18. Boarding Advisors work closely as a team to provide around-the-clock supervision to student boarders and, on occasion, supervise non-boarding students during select activities and events. In this role, you will be vital in supporting and enhancing all aspects of student life and programming, that requires ongoing communication with stakeholders, flexibility with shifting priorities, and timely decision-making.
KEY DUTIES
- Provide supervision, care, and support to students.
- Serve as a positive role model for students.
- Support meaningful inclusion and active participation of all individuals within the community.
- Conduct individual and group check-ins to monitor student safety and well-being.
- Support students in completing chores, homework, and other responsibilities.
- Plan and execute activities, events; implement systems and routines for students.
- Drive or walk students to and from academic school, appointments, activities, and events.
- Communicate concerns from students or parents/guardians to required stakeholders as appropriate.
- Apply appropriate discipline for students in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Respond to and assist with crisis response and management as required.
- Provide language support for students in which English is an additional language.
- Perform administrative tasks such as record keeping and note taking.
WORK SETTING
You will work in a Student Boarding setting interacting, observing, and supporting students. You will use general office equipment, industrial cleaning supplies with the ability to move heavy items weighing up to 22 KG (50lbs) such as furniture or luggage. Availability for flexible scheduling, including days, evenings, weekends, and at least one overnight shift per week, as required.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Background in child and youth care, social work, psychology, education, nursing, or a related field.
- Minimum one (1) year experience working with children or adolescents.
- Valid class IV driver’s license; or willing and eligible to obtain within three (3) months of employment.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification; or willing to obtain within three (3) months of employment.
- Certification in English as an Additional Language instruction preferred.
- Additional language skills considered an asset.
- Familiarity with professional dance training an asset.
- Good understanding of child welfare and development.
- Sound written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive with strong initiative.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
- Caring, nurturing, trustworthy, and authoritative figure.
