Executive Director
We are seeking a dedicated Executive Director to lead our operations and work closely with Chief and Council to achieve our community’s goals. We offer a highly competitive salary along with a comprehensive benefits package.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Public Administration, Indigenous Governance, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum 5 years of senior management experience, ideally within an Indigenous organization or government setting.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and financial management skills (budgeting and reporting).
- Experience in First Nations funding and reporting requirements
- Experience and knowledge of financial accounting principles, practices and procedures
- Knowledge of social and economic issues facing First Nations
- Ability to manage First Nation resources including people, material assets and money
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Knowledge of Indigenous governance, culture, and traditions.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with community members, staff, and external partners.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial legislation affecting First Nations.
- Ability to travel as required and possess a valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency in office equipment and software.
- Cree or Ojibway language skills are an asset.
- Must pass a drug and alcohol test and criminal background check.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Overall management for all operations, programs services, personnel and finances of the First Nation under the direction of Chief and Council.
- Attend all Chief and Council meetings, delivering daily updates, reports, and recommendations as needed.
- Provide strategic support to Chief and Council and act as a trusted advisor.
- Ensure that operational policies, procedures, and practices align with the community’s values and objectives.
- Develop, monitor, and manage the community’s annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
- Oversee financial reporting, audits, and the preparation of funding proposals.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and funding agreements.
- Implement operational policies and procedures to improve organizational efficiency.
- Identify and secure additional funding to support community programs and initiatives.
- Engage with community members to assess needs and priorities.
- Lead the development of programs supporting social, economic, and cultural growth.
- Build and maintain partnerships with external organizations and governments.
