POSITION SUMMARY
The Facility Operator I is responsible for assisting in the overall operation and coordination of the Westbank First Nation facilities and playing fields.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- A minimum of one year experience or related experience in facility operations
- Administrative experience preferred
- Experience working with indigenous communities/people considered an asset
- Experience working with public communications considered an asset
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with an annual driver’s abstract in excellent
standing - Must have own transportation and vehicle insurance
- Willing to take training for Emergency First Aid Level 1 and CPR “C” Certification
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, with results acceptable to WFN
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES
- Ensures all facilities are operated and maintained effectively and safely, utilizing industry standards for cleanliness
- Performs general janitorial duties throughout the day including light sweeping, mopping up of spills, spot cleaning and picking up of garbage
- Assists in the set-up and take down of equipment, furniture, and fixtures before, during and after events and programs, i.e. Membership meetings, special events, community dinners, yoga/boot camp etc. (Ensures proper storage is adhered to after each event)
- Opens facilities and closes facilities ensuring all windows and doors are locked and secure with security system activated
- Conducts security checks and surveillance of facilities and properties in the community core, reporting and documenting any damage, vandalism and incidents to the supervisor
- Coordinates and schedules all facilities and sport field bookings
- Records and files all internal and external rental agreements, condition inspection reports and communication
- Ensures the safety and well-being of all users of the facilities, communicating and working cooperatively with participants, parents and staff
- Assists WFN Departments and Event Coordinator with the implementation of special events i.e.: set up of audio equipment, coordinating with the setup for large events, roll out of floor, guiding participants throughout the event etc.
- Monitors and performs regular cleaning and inspections of weight room equipment and report deficiencies to the maintenance log
- Deals tactfully and courteously with the public and practices good public relations while responding to their enquiries.
- Ensures safety for all groups using the facilities by enforcing the policies and procedures
- Reports all facility maintenance issues to the Property Management department and will assist Property Management to have work completed in a timely manner
- Attends staff meetings, training sessions and workshops as directed by the Property Administrator
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures, and as directed by the Property Administrator
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance and operation of facilities
- Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills along with program planning, leadership and the ability to be an effective team player
- Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment and initiative while performing the duties of this position
- Strong coordination and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Emergency procedures, First Aid and CPR, Worker’s Compensation Act and OH&S
regulations applicable to the work area - Understand and use the safety, emergency and security procedures for the facility
- Leadership skills including ability to model appropriate behaviors and demonstrate sound judgment while creating and maintaining a positive work environment
- Knowledge of and ability to use computer programs including Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel
- Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports as well as other administrative duties as required
- Comfortable dealing with Membership and the public
