JOB SUMMARY: The Native Inmate Liaison Officer reports to and receives direction from the Justice Director

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The Native Inmate Liaison Officer (NILO) will be directly accountable to the Six Nations Justice Department Director. The Native Inmate Liaison (NILO) provides leadership, cultural awareness, peer counselling and other services to the Indigenous offenders. They are the link between the offenders and Indigenous communities. The Native Inmate Liaison Officer (NILO) helps ensure the offender’s culture and spiritual needs are understood and met.

Hours of Work  35hrs./week
Wage $29.07/hour

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year social worker diploma with 3-5 years of front line experience in human services.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with Indigenous organizations or with First Nations community.

OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Has excellent report writing skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in fast paced environment
  • High level understanding of the mainstream legal and court system.
  • High level of communication skills; Interoffice, telephone and written.
  • Computer skills; Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
  • Strong level of organizational skills for self.
  • Must be a team-oriented player.
  • Has a valid G license.
  • Possess research and data collection skills.
  • Possess Critical Incident stress debriefing skills.
  • Aware of Six Nations community and services available in the area.
  • Possess the ability to adapt and relate effectively with people of all ages.
  • Will participate in recommended training.
