Premier and Minister of Economic Development Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

“This week, Yukon government officials met with a delegation of Nordic diplomats. I would like to welcome Jacob Bay Lindkvist from the Embassy of Denmark, Jón-Åge Øyslebø from the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Karin Öhman from the Embassy of Sweden, Per Unheim from the Embassy of Iceland and Sari Uusi-Rauva from the Embassy of Finland to Whitehorse and thank them for the time they spent meeting with government, businesses and members of the community.

“This visit strengthens our renewed Nordic relations, which we re-established after the pandemic by hosting the Nordic Ambassadors in Whitehorse at the Arctic Arts Summit in June 2022.

“The diplomats’ time in Whitehorse was an opportunity to further strengthen relationships, exchange perspectives and deepen understanding between our regions. During a visit with members of government, we discussed Arctic security, infrastructure, Indigenous governance, climate change, trade and investment, our rich and diverse cultures, art and history. Beyond our government discussions, the delegation also engaged with the Yukon’s business community, arts and culture organizations and Yukon University.

“Working closely with our Nordic partners remains essential to addressing shared challenges in northern communities and tackling Arctic issues.

“I thank the Nordic diplomats for visiting our territory and I look forward to our ongoing collaboration to support a strong, resilient and sustainable future for the Arctic and the Yukon.”
