What’s happening on and off the campaign trail today, plus the news you need to start your day.
After kicking off the first full day of the campaign in Gander, Nfld., Liberal leader Mark Carney will continue his East Coast tour in Nova Scotia, starting with a mid-morning “announcement” in Halifax, N.S., where, according to his itinerary, he’ll take questions from reporters. (9:30 a.m. ADT)
Among the topics likely to come up during that back-and-forth: His decision to say ‘non, merci’ to the non-official, but traditional second French-language debate that Quebec broadcaster TVA had offered to host — with a $75,000 entry fee for participating leaders — but has now been cancelled “due to the Liberal Party of Canada’s refusal to participate,” as per a statement released by the network last night.
