Haida Wild: NRT’s Indigenous Food Security and Sovereignty Grant
Credit: New Relationship Trust
Haida Wild is bringing the rich seafood traditions of Haida Gwaii to the world while creating local jobs and ensuring sustainability for future generations. With deep respect for the land and waters, they’ve built a business that prioritizes both quality and cultural connection.
A key part of their growth has been the addition of a state-of-the-art packaging machine, allowing them to process seafood more efficiently, reduce waste, and expand their reach—while keeping everything rooted in Haida values. This investment strengthens food security, supports local fishers, and ensures that high-quality, sustainably harvested seafood can be enjoyed near and far.
This was made possible through the Indigenous Food Security and Sovereignty (IFS) Grant, which provides non-repayable funding to First Nation communities, Indigenous organizations, businesses, and entrepreneurs in British Columbia. The fund helps strengthen Indigenous food systems and supports innovation that enhances sustainability, ensuring long-term success for businesses like Haida Wild.
With the right tools and resources, Indigenous businesses continue to lead the way in building strong, self-sustaining economies that reflect their communities’ traditions and values.
