Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to spend the next two days trumpeting the benefits of transatlantic trade — and specifically, the Canada-European Union trade pact, which, as Canadian Press reports, faces a key ratification vote in the French National Assembly this week —  as he welcomes a high-level delegation of European leaders to Montreal for the annual Canada-EU summit.

As CP points out, “almost all of CETA — in excess of 90 per cent — went into force in September 2017 under what is known as provisional application, but individual ratifications by EU member countries will bring it fully into effect,” — a development that, the wire service notes, would be widely viewed as “a win for the international trading order that has been under assault by U.S. President Donald Trump.”
