ITAC Welcomes Secretary of State for Tourism, The Honourable Rechie Valdez

Unceded and Unsurrendered Algonquin Anishinaabeg Territory – (Ottawa, ON) – The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) welcomes The Honourable Rechie Valdez, Minister of Women and Gender Equality; and Secretary of State (small business and tourism), and looks forward to collaborating with Minister Valdez in continuing our relationship to promote and develop Indigenous tourism from coast to coast to coast.

The Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, has announced his new Cabinet today. Moreover, ITAC extends its gratitude to the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, Anita Anand, for her brief service as she moves to Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The association welcomes The Honourable Mandy Gull-Masty, Minister of Indigenous Services, and thanks Patty Hajdu, former Minister of Indigenous Services, for her service since 2021. Patty Hajdu is now Minister of Jobs and Families, and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario. In addition, the other ministries that support ITAC’s work have changed. ITAC welcomes The Honourable Rebecca Alty, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations. And thank you to Gary Anandasangaree, former Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations, for his work, as he now moves to Minister of Public Safety. In addition,

A new ministry has also been created. ITAC welcomes the Honourable Rebecca Chartrand, Minister of Northern and Arctic Affairs, for her future support of Indigenous tourism throughout Canada. Minister Chartrand is also responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency.

ITAC remains committed to fostering strong relationships with our government partners to ensure Indigenous tourism is reconciliation in action and economic development for Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
