ITK seeks Expressions of Interest to determine main campus for Inuit Nunangat University

Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami is inviting Expressions of Interest from communities across Inuit Nunangat to help determine the location of the main campus of Inuit Nunangat University.

ITK is working to establish the first Inuit-owned and governed university in Canada’s Arctic. This landmark university will serve Inuit across Inuit Nunangat and beyond, advancing Inuit knowledge, language, and education while promoting cultural pride and self-determination.

The University’s main campus will serve as a central educational hub, while complementary Knowledge Centres will extend educational opportunities throughout Inuit Nunangat.

Inuit Nunangat municipalities, organizations and individuals are now invited to identify factors that would contribute to a community’s success in hosting the University’s main campus, including existing infrastructure and local services, as well as the potential to accommodate an estimated 100 students and 80 staff.

“The University’s main campus will serve as an important centre of activity for the institution, while promoting a sense of community and collaboration across Inuit Nunangat,” said ITK President Natan Obed.

“This process of identifying a central location is designed to be inclusive and ensure the best possible delivery model is chosen.”

The process will assist ITK, working with a third-party consultant, to identify communities to be invited to submit detailed proposals as potential hosts for the main campus. Communities not selected as the main campus host will still have opportunities to play a vital role in the university’s future.

Inuit Nunangat University will be a world-class institution offering accredited and transferable degrees, while advancing Inuit language and knowledge. The University aims to deliver its first programs in 2030.
