What’s happening on and off the Hill today, plus the news you need to start your day.
After starting the week with two days of high-level discussions with his front bench team in Montebello, Que., followed by a virtual huddle with his provincial and territorial counterparts yesterday morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to join his fellow Liberal MPs for what will could be his final caucus retreat before he formally cedes power to his still-to-be-chosen successor.
As the Hill Times reported last week, the closed-door session — which, it’s worth noting, is set to take place just days before the House of Commons was originally slated to reopen for business — is expected to get underway on Parliament Hill later today and continue through Friday, and will likely focus on the now seemingly imminent election call, which could see MPs hit the hustings shortly after the new Liberal leader is sworn in.
