For the first time, an Indigenous person will head the department charged with providing services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis in Canada.
Rookie MP Mandy Gull Masty (Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou) was named minister of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) by Prime Minister Mark Carney during the swearing-in ceremony at Rideau Hall Tuesday.
Gull Masty was the head of the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee) prior to running for a seat in the House of Commons.
