Media Advisory: Provincial Government to Honour Indigenous Culture with Unveiling of Nunatsiavut Artwork

The Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, along with the Honourable Dr. Scott Reid, Minister for Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation and representatives of the Nunatsiavut Government to unveil artwork in the East Block Lobby of Confederation Building tomorrow, March 12. The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will showcase the original work of artist Bronson Jacque.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador worked closely with Indigenous Governments and Organizations (IGOs) to procure six pieces of Indigenous artwork – one for each of the five IGOs and a sixth to honour the culture of the Beothuk.

The IGOs – Nunatsiavut Government, Innu Nation, NunatuKavut Community Council, Qalipu First Nation and Miawpukek First Nation – were invited to develop their own process for selecting an artist and procuring the artwork.
