Ma Kina Maaga Gamik – One Year of Empowering Minegoziibe Anishinabe Through Education
On July 5, 2024, Minegoziibe Anishinabe marked the one-year anniversary of Ma Kina Maaga Gamik, our local education and training center built on the foundation of educational self-determination.
In partnership with the University of Manitoba, FPDI, and the MasterCard Foundation’s EleV Program, this initiative is transforming lives by bringing culturally grounded, community-based education home to our people.
From Red River College Polytechnic programs to Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic training, students now have access to post-secondary and vocational learning without leaving the community. With access to Elders, mental health support, reliable technology, and child care, our youth and adult learners are set up for success in a safe, supportive environment.
Hear from students, leaders, educators, and partners about the power of learning in our own space—where culture, family, and opportunity come together.
Education is the new buffalo—and Ma Kina Maaga Gamik is just the beginning.
