Official Nominations for Kana:takon & Kawehno:ke By-Election

The Chief Electoral Officer has released the official list of candidates for the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne By-Election. Nominations were held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in the districts of Kana:takon and Kawehno:ke, and all individuals have formally accepted their nomination.

District of Kana:takon:
(Two (2) seats | Term ending June 2027)

The By-Election will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Voting for Kawehno:ke will take place at the Tri-District Elders Lodge; voting for Kana:takon will take place at Kanonhkwa’tsheri:io Health Facility.

Voting Locations Details:

  • Voters in Kawehno:ke will cast their ballots at the Tri-District Elders Lodge, which can be accessed via Buckshot Road.
  • Voters in Kana:takon will vote at the Kanonhkwa’tsheri:io Health Facility, accessible through Sweetgrass Lane. Please note that the facility’s main entrance will be closed on the day of voting.

Advance polls will be held on Thursday, December 4, and Friday, December 5 at the Angus Mitchell Memorial Building in Kana:takon.

Voters are encouraged to confirm their information on the district Voters Lists, available at the following locations:

  • Kawehno:ke: Bank of Montreal, Peace Tree Trade Centre, Jock’s Kwikstop
  • Kana:takon: Canada Post Office (Angus Mitchell Memorial Building), Village Currency Exchange

The deadline to register to vote is Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
