Pinery Provincial Park to Host First Nation Deer Hunt

Ontario Honouring Treaty Rights of the Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nations

Pinery Provincial Park will be closed to the public from December 5-9, 2016 for a traditional First Nation deer hunt. The hunt will begin one half-hour before sunrise and end at noon each day.

First Nation hunters will use rifles and archery equipment and follow agreed-upon safety measures and hunting techniques.

First Nation hunting activities have taken place at this park in the past. Ministry staff will be monitoring access points to the park during the hunt.

Ontario respects Aboriginal and treaty rights, as recognized and affirmed under s. 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982, and is committed to meeting the province’s constitutional and other obligations regarding Indigenous peoples.
