Statement from Premier Pillai on the results of the 2025 federal election

Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

“Yesterday we saw Canadian democracy in action. On behalf of the Government of Yukon and all Yukoners, I extend congratulations to Prime Minister Mark Carney on the Liberal Party of Canada’s election victory and to Dr. Brendan Hanley on his re-election as the Yukon’s Member of Parliament.

“The Yukon is ready to continue working with the federal government to strengthen and protect Canada’s economy and sovereignty. This includes investing in Arctic security and northern infrastructure, removing barriers to domestic and international trade, working in partnership with Yukon First Nations, accelerating access to affordable housing in the North and advancing nation-building projects, such as connecting the Yukon to the North American power grid and investing in our renewable energy future.

“Yesterday, Yukoners sent a clear message that they want us to work collaboratively with the federal government to enhance our economy, make life more affordable and invest in our health care and education systems.

“We urge the newly elected federal government to prioritize efforts to enhance public safety through meaningful bail reform, curb the flow of illicit substances to the North and to protect the rights of licensed and subsistence hunters across our territory.

“I want to thank everyone who put their name forward to represent our territory and our country during this important time.”
