The 2025 spring sitting of the Yukon Legislative Assembly concludes
May 1, 2025
The 2025 Spring Sitting of the Yukon Legislative Assembly concluded today with the passing of Budget 2025–26 and several pieces of legislation receiving assent.
Budget 2025–26 responds to the needs of a rapidly growing territory by making major investments in health care, education and housing, while continuing to build and maintain the strategic infrastructure that will deliver long-term benefits for Yukoners and Yukon communities.
Included in these are historic investments in health care, nearly $30 million in transfers to municipalities through the Comprehensive Municipal Grant, a new and increased rebate on residential electricity bills, increased funding and investment in the Yukon RCMP and SCAN to improve community safety and supports for businesses and industries impacted by the Trump administration’s tariffs and tariff threats.
Throughout this legislative session, the Government of Yukon has prioritized:
Making life more affordable for Yukoners
- Investing $57.6 million in new and ongoing housing projects and $24.4 million to advance residential lot development.
- Earmarking $7.5 million for affordability measures, including social assistance increases, electricity rebates and supports for caregivers and parents of children with disabilities.
Investing in our communities

- Funding major investments in infrastructure, including $50 million for bridges, $75 million for Whitehorse airport upgrades and $31 million for the North Klondike Highway.
- Setting aside a $75 million contingency fund to address climate change and health care pressures.
- Securing federal funding to support the construction of a new convention centre that will become a major economic and community hub in Whitehorse.
- Beginning work to replace the George Black Ferry and enhance safer and more reliable service at this important river crossing.
Protecting the environment
- Continuing to support the response to the June 2024 catastrophic heap leach failure at the Eagle Gold mine site.
- $21.5 million for Minto Mine reclamation and $5.5 million for water treatment at Wolverine Mine.
- Investing $59 million for clean energy initiatives, including building retrofits and renewable energy projects.
Enhancing health and safety
- Investing $24.5 million in the Yukon Hospital Corporation, bringing total funding to $135.3 million to meet demand for services and to expand bed capacity.
- Increasing funding by $47 million more for Insured Health Services, bringing total funding in 2025–26 to $206.1 million.
- Earmarking $5.7 million to hire more RCMP officers and SCAN investigators.
Advancing reconciliation
- Support for First Nations initiatives, including $1.3 million for negotiations, $700,000 for the Yukon Residential Schools Missing Children Project and $12.7 million for the Sādę Initiative solar project in Watson Lake.
- Ongoing discussions with Yukon First Nations leadership on the collective response to the Substance Use Health Emergency Strategy and the management of support services across the territory.
It has been an honour to serve Yukoners throughout the spring sitting. From strengthening health care and education to making life more affordable, our government remains focused on delivering results that matter. By working together and staying focused on what matters to Yukoners, we’re doing the work to build a stronger, safer and more inclusive Yukon.
